Harriet Taylor Upton, the first female Vice Chair of the Republican National Committee
Grand Old Partisan lauds Harriet Taylor Upton, born in Ohio, December 17th 1853. Her father, a judge, would be elected as a Republican to the U.S. House of Representatives. She was treasurer of the National American Women Suffrage Association, under the leadership of Susan B. Anthony. This civil rights activist also served as president of the Ohio Woman Suffrage Association.
In 1920, the Republican National Committee elected her its Vice Chair. Upton was the first woman at this post. She resigned four years later to run for Congress.
