the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act

Grand Old Partisan praises the GOP’s respect for life. November 5th 2003, George W. Bush signed the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. This law had been been introduced by Republican Senator Rick Santorum and passed by the GOP-controlled 108th Congress. It was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in Gonzales v. Carhart. 

said the President:

"For years, a terrible form of violence has been directed against children who are inches from birth, while the law looked the other way. Today, at last, the American people and our government have confronted the violence and come to the defense of the innocent child."


"The best case against partial birth abortion is a simple description of what happens and to whom it happens. It involves the partial delivery of a live boy or girl, and a sudden, violent end of that life. Our nation owes its children a different and better welcome."

Grand Old Partisan honors John Wesley Cromwell, born into slavery, September 5th 1846. Years after the Civil War focused on working for the American Missionary Association in Virginia. He was delegate at two Republican state conventions as well as a constitutional convention. Following this came law studies at Howard University. Recognizing his talent, the Ulysses Grant administration named Cromwell to various positions and the Chester Arthur selected him to represent Washington DC at the New Orleans World’s Fair. The former Kansas Governor was the GOP's 1936 presidential nominee. Robert Taft, venerable Ohio Republican statesman

Grand Old Partisan honors Robert Taft, born in Cincinnati, September 8th 1889. His father was President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft; his grandfather Alphonso, Secretary of War and Attorney General during the Grant administration. He studied at Yale and Harvard Law School. Political activity began in the state house. Following this came the speakership, then the state senate. In 1938, amid New Deal fatigue, Taft won first of three U.S. Senate terms. This traditional conservative became "one of the most powerful U.S. Senators of the 20th century." He was known as "Mr. Republican". Taft vied for the 1944 and 1948 presidential nominations, and in 1952, he narrowly lost out to General Dwight Eisenhower.
