President William McKinley laid the cornerstone for the Washington Hebrew Congregation temple
Grand Old Partisan appreciates Republican reverence for Judaism. September 16th 1897, construction began on the Washington Hebrew Congregation temple. President William McKinley and his entire Cabinet were there. More than three thousand people attended, at Eighth & I Streets NW DC.
President McKinley laid the cornerstone of the building. He concluded the event with a congratulatory address. In 1955, the Congregation relocated to a new building away from downtown.
